Responsibilities of a good sales manager
For any business, or industry, profits are the first and foremost goals. To generate more profits, the company needs to improve upon sales, and in every company there is a separate department to handle the sales and marketing procedures. One person who is responsible for running and handling day to day activities is the sales manager. Sales manager is an expert who has the responsibility to generate more sales for the company and coordinate the activities of the marketing team so that the company is able to make more profits. For different companies, the requirements from a sales manager may be specific, but there are some general responsibilities that a sales manager is required to fulfill, irrespective of the industry he is in. Following is a list of such general responsibilities.
Recruitment of sales personnel
A good sales manager is only as effective as the team he has got. It is his responsibility to work in coordination with the human resource manager to conduct interviews and hire men who he thinks will work efficiently under him to generate sales for the company.
Providing training to juniors
Once he has hired the right men, sales manager has to work with them. It is his responsibility to conduct training sessions and to teach them about the work culture of the organization. He has to see that every individual understands what is expected of him. He has to remember that it is his training that will ultimately delver the goods for the company.
Managing subordinates
Sales manager has to understand that every individual is different. Each subordinate has some weaknesses and some strength which he has to manipulate to get the best results for the company. He has to keep a record of the performance of each subordinate and make a comparative analysis of each of them. He has to assign the tasks according to the abilities of the juniors so as to get best from each of them.
Preparing sales and marketing policies
In consultation with the top brass, sales manager has to come up with unique sales and marketing strategies to come up trumps in the market. After discussing these policies with team members, he has to get them implemented as well.
Finalizing contracts and deals
It is the duty of the sales manager to go ahead and clinch deals which are beneficial for the company. He needs to travel to wherever the client asks him, and has to keep him in good spirits to finalize the deal.
